Actress. She was an American television actress, who played the mother figure "Jo Johnson" in 403 episodes on the NBC daytime drama "Days of Our Lives." For this role, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Performance from Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1989. On "Days of Our Lives," she was a cast regular from 1987 until her death in 1993 of liver failure. Previously she had performed for a few episodes on another daytime soap opera, "The Young and the Restless," on CBS. Born Joyce Irene Garrett, she attended Texas Wesleyan University and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before appearing on the stage in 1969. She is credited with 30 other television appearances, mostly for one episode, and the supporting role of "Barbara" in 1974 film "Who." Airing only months before her death, she played the role of Annie in the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in season six, episode "A Fistful of Dates."
