Writer. Katharine Tynan Hinkson was an extremely prolific Irish writer. She wrote over 100 novels, as well as songs and poetry. She was best known as a novelist and religious poet. Katharine Tynan's book of verse, "Louise de la Vallière" (1885), established her as a prominent figure in the "Irish Literary Revival". Thus, she was associated among such writers as W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw. Her friendship with W.B. Yeats spanned the rest of her life. Her writing career spanned most of the last quarter of the 19th Century and the first quarter of the 20th Century. She first wrote using her maiden name "Katharine Tynan" while she was single, and later wrote using the name "Katharine Tynan Hinkson" after she married writer and barrister Henry A. Hinkson in 1898. She died in Wimbledon, London, England, and is buried next to her friend Alice Meynell. Her grave is not far from Francis Thompson, a fellow Catholic religious poet whom she much admired. They are buried in Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, which is also known as Kensal Green Catholic Cemetery.
