Rhode Island Governor. He was a Major General in command of the Rhode Island State Militia and served as a member of the Rhode Island General Assembly, (1816-20). In 1821, he was elected the 10th Governor of Rhode Island, serving until 1824. During his term in office, the question of expanding suffrage was placed on the state ballot but rejected and a Constitutional Convention drafted a document that addressed voting rights irregularities, but voters rejected any change to the Constitution. He died in retirement at age 84.
