Amateur and Professional Golfer. He won the National Amateur Championship in 1907, 1908, 1912 and 1913 before becoming one of only five amateurs ever to win the US Open in 1915. He was named to the PGA Hall of Fame in 1940. In 1951 he was inducted posthumously into the World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
