Songwriter. Born Benjamin Hozer, he changed to the professional name of Benjamin Homer. He wrote a number of well-known songs including "Sentimental Journey Home," and "Mexican Hat Dance." Growing up in Meriden, Connecticut, his musical ability was recognized by a teacher when he was only nine years old. At age eleven he became a member of the Meriden Symphony Orchestra. At the age of fifteen he became of member of the American Federation of Musicians. After three years of study at the New England Conservatory of Music he traveled with the big bands of Benny Goodman, The Dorsey brothers, Count Basie and others. In 1943 he became the youngest musician ever inducted into ASCAP.
