Jazz Musician. He was a double bass player. He was an original member of Motown's Funk Brothers Band from 1959 to 1962. The Funk Brothers was the nickname of Detroit-based session musicians who performed the backing to most Motown recordings from 1959 until 1972. Although they are considered one of the most successful groups of studio musicians in music history, he is often thought of as the forgotten Motown bassist. He was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2014. He was 89 years old.
