Singer. He is better known as a member of the musical group Gladys Knight and the Pips. He was an original member who performed background vocals on such recordings as Every Beat of My Heart (1961), I Heard It Through the Grapevine (1967), If I Were Your Woman (1970), Midnight Train to Georgia 1973) and many more. He was the cousin of Gladys Knight. Gladys Knight and the Pips formed in the early 50's and performed together around their home state of Georgia for several years before they began recording in the early 60's, but it wasn't until their 1965 signing with Motown Records that gave them their first major national exposure. In 1989, after over three decades together, Gladys and the Pips decided to go their separate ways. Before retiring, The Pips recorded one album without Gladys. For the last two decades, he continued in the music industry as the President of Crew Entertainment Company, he also recorded solo. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. His biography was released in 2013.
