Profession Baseball Player. He was a catcher in Major League Baseball. He played for the Milwaukee Grays in 1878 and the Worcester Ruby Legs. Bennett played eight seasons with the Detroit Wolverines from 1881 to 1888. His last five major league seasons with the Boston Beaneaters. He ended his 15-year career after a train accident in 1894, which forced him to have both his legs amputated. In 1912 he threw the first ball at the opening of Tiger Stadium, previously known as Navin Field.
