Major League Baseball Player. He was a right-handed pitcher for three teams in seven seasons in the majors. Ford played with the New York Highlanders (1909 to 1912), New York Yankees (1913), and Buffalo Buffeds in the Federal League (1914 to 1915). In 204 games, he was a starting pitcher in 170, winning 99 and losing 71 with an earned run average of 2.59. He struck out 710 batters. Ford was the originator of the scuff ball which was a pitch thrown with a ball that had been scuffed with a piece of emery. In 1910, he became only the third player in major league history to win 20 games and strike out at least 200 batters in his rookie season. He was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
