Auto Race Car Driver. He was the first New Zealander to win a Formula One Grand Prix and also the youngest driver in history to triumph when taking out the 1959 US - Grand Prix in Sebring. This record stands for 44 years. He was vice-champion in the 1960 F 1 season and third in 1962 and 1969. Besides winning four Grand Prix´ in his career he won also the prestigious 24 Hours at Le Mans in 1966, the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1967 and the CanAm series in 1967 and 69. From 1966 on he was designing, building and driving his own cars, founding the McLaren Team which still runs under his name today, becoming one of the most successful in Formula One history, winning a total of 20 world championships (cars and/or drivers). McLaren cars furthermore completely dominated the CanAm sportscar series with 56 wins and five constructors´ championships between 1967 and 72, many of them with Bruce McLaren as a driver. He was killed testing his new CanAm car at the Goodwood circuit near London.
