Vancouver Mayor. Templeton arrived from Bellville, Ontario to Vancouver, BC in 1886. He was a butcher by profession and received a land grant from the Canadian Pacific Railway in exchange for helping make Vancouver its terminus. He had failed a bid for mayor in 1882 but he served as an alderman and later as school trustee. He had an aggressive personality and was said to be a bad political strategist. Despite the suspicions of the working class due to his ties with CPR, he was elected Mayor in 1897. He died after losing his seat the James Garden. It is believed that he committed suicide by taking an overdose of a sleeping potion.
