Roman Catholic Saint. Franciscan friar and Bishop of Taiyan. He was martyred with other priests, missionaries, women, and children during the Boxer Rebellion on orders of Yu-Hsien, the Governor of Shanxi, and in the governor's presence. It is known as the Taiyuan Massacre. He was canonized on October 1, 2000 by Pope John Paul II. His feast day is July 9.
