Soldier and politician. Prominent leader of Fascist Italy before and during World War II. Joined the Italian Royal Army in 1909 and became a Second Lieutenant by 1912. Awarded the Silver Medal of Military Valor for her service in World War I. Joined the Fascist movement in 1920 and became the Vice-Secretary of the National Fascist Party in 1921. Participated on the March on Rome in 1922, where he lead a group of Camicie Nere in support of Benito Mussolini. Became Party Inspector of Sicily, commander of the National Security Volunteer Militia, and was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1924. Named Party Secretary in 1931 and worked to segregate Jews and expand Mussolini's power and influence. Fought in the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935. Replaced as Party Secretary in 1939, being replaced by Ettore Muti. Later named Chief of Staff until his dismissal in 1941. Arrested following Mussolini's fall and was sent to a concentration camp in Verona. Though he was later released, he was captured by anti-Fascist Italian partisans on April 29, 1945 and was sentenced to death and was shot. His body was hung upside down in Piazzale Loreto along with Mussolini, Clara Petacci, and Alessandro Pavolini.
