US Congressman. Prior to entering politics, he was the founder and president of the Eagan Schools of Business in New Jersey and New York; the first vice president of the Merchants and Manufacturers' Trust Company; and the tax collector in Union, New Jersey from 1896 to 1899. He was elected as a New Jersey Democratic Representative for five terms, from March 4, 1913 to March 3, 1921 and from March 4, 1923 to March 3, 1925, losing his bid for reelection in both the 1920 (when he was a delegate to the National Convention) and 1924 campaigns. A resident of Weehawken, he served on its Board of Education from 1932 to 1940, and was appointed Tax Collector from 1941 to 1955.
