U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Peru State College, in 1951, from the University of Nebraska, 1955, then was a teacher and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He also served in the U.S. Navy, (1951-55) and the U.S. Navy Reserves, (1955-71), retiring at the rank of Commander. In 1975, he was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1983. Not a candidate for reelection, he served on the staff for Senator Paul Simon of Illinois, (1983-92) and joined the Department of Agriculture as Secretary of the Farm Credit Administration.
