Author, Journalist. She published the work "The Rape of Nanking" in 1997, and received critical acclaim for her researching and depiction of the mass rape and murder committed by Imperial Japaneses Forces in Nanking, China in 1937 and 1938. She also published the works "The Chinese in America" and "Thread of the Silkworm." She died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 36, having battled depression as a result of the acclaim and controversy from her works.
