Talmadge Ovid Harrison,
89, of Kite passed away Thurs-
day afternoon, February 16,
2012 at the Carl A. Vinson VA
Medical Center in Dublin.
Mr. Harrison was born in
Kite, Ga. to the late Linton
Talmadge and Georgia Dell
Powell Harrison. Mr.Harri-
son served his country with
the U.S. Navy in World War II
in the South Pacific. He was a
member of the Wrightsville
Chapter of the American Le-
gion and Kite First Baptist
Church. Mr. Harrison was
known for growing Sweet
Potatoes using Miracle
Growth. In 1982 he was
awarded worlds record for the
largest sweet potato. In 1986,
Ovid Harrison was honored by
the Guinness World Book of
Records in New York. He and
his wife were flown to New
York and honored. Mr. .Harri-
son loved fishing, gardening,
wine making and growing his
Own fruit.
Mr. Harrison was a Pipe
Fitter with Tom Food Limited
for 17 years.
He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Beagie and
Emerson Harrison; one sister,
Ann Harrison Anderson.
Funeral services will be
held at the Kite First Baptist
Church in Kite, Ga. Monday
morning, February 20, 2012
at 11a.m. Rev. Burton Dixon
will be the officiating minister.
Burial will follow at the Kite
City Cemetery.
Mr. Harrison is survived by
his wife of 59 years, Mrs.
Agnes Logue Harrison; four
sons, Ronny Harrison (Patri-
cia)of August, Guy Harrison
(Cathy)of Warner Robins,Ter-
ry Harrison of Dublin, and Jim
Harrison(Beth)of Kite; one
daughter, Marie Harrison
Powell of Kite, 12 grandchil-
dren and 12 great grand chil-
dren, numerous nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be held at
Brantley-Powell Funeral
Home, Sunday night, Febru-
aryl 19, 2012 from 6-8p.m.
Pallbearers for the Harri-
son service will be Aaron,
Justin, Bennie, William,
Michael Harrison and Will
Perez.
In lieu of flowers, the fami-
ly has requested donations be
given to the Kite First Baptist
Church at 134 Highway 57,
Kite, GA 31049.
