An American citizen, he was survived by his 4 brothers, John J., Emil Edward (b 1887), Mario and Mathews Bechtinger; and by his sisters, Josephine (b 1862) and Barbara Bechtinger, all of whom resided in Rio de Janeiro. His brother, John J. Bechtinger, executor of his estate, was naturalized as a Brazilian citizen in 1921.
He was also known as Milton or Carlos Milton Bechtinger. It appears part of the family became permanent residents in Brazil.
