David "Swede" Carlson, 71, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Born December 25, 1945 in Rockford, one of nine children born to Arthur and Emma (Toll) Carlson.
David was a graduate of Harlem High School. He married the love of his life, Shirley Cottrell on December 18, 1965 in Rockford. He was employed by Co-Lin Metal Fabricating Inc. for 41 years, having retired in 2008.
David enjoyed golfing, bowling as a family, antiquing and estate sales, going for drives and traveling having visited Europe three times. Together with Shirley they became their grandchildren's biggest fans, having rarely missed a home game. David's favorite pastime of all was his family.
Survived by: his loving wife, Shirley; daughter, Lori; grandchildren, Megan Gassaway, Adam Pearson and Josh Pearson; siblings, Alice Matthews, Lillian (William) Tallier, Ellen Smith, Carol (Don) Blecker, Janet Roberts, Carl (Jeanne) Carlson; special friend, Jim Ross; numerous nieces and nephews; countless golfing buddies.
Predeceased by: his parents; sister, Nina Swenson; and brother, Leonard Carlson.
Funeral Service on Saturday January 28, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home, in Machesney Park, Illinois. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
