Orval Hunt, 91, of South Charleston, was reunited in Heaven with Ruth, his wife of 68 years. He died on President's Day, February 20, 2017. There he is also reunited with his older son, Orval Jr., who died on President's day 2007.
He was born in Clendenin on March 2, 1925.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Orval N. Hunt and Roxie Samples Hunt; and all of his siblings, Grace Gandee, Hobart Hunt, Oleta Stiltner, Effie Lacy and Johnny Hunt.
He was a member of Fifth Avenue Church of God, South Charleston, where he served as Head Usher for close to 40 years. He was also a proud member of the Men's prayer breakfast and the visitation team.
He retired from Union Carbide where he was a machine operator for over 40 years.
He also coached Little League baseball as well as volunteered with the Boy Scouts.
He was a proud United States Marine, serving during both World War II and the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Okinawa.
A special thank you to the entire staff at CAMC Memorial division 3rd Floor West, for treating dad with such compassion and dignity in his final days.
Surviving son Mike (Gale) Hunt of Hernshaw, grandchildren Mendy (Steve) Radyshewsky of Woodbridge, Va., Jack (Heather) Hunt of Accokeek, Md., Jim (Carla) Hunt of Marmet, Marcy (Evan) Duff of Clayton, N.C., Joe (Amanda) Hunt of Anderson, S.C., Molly (Adam) Wald of Marquette, Ill.; 15 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, February 24, at the Fifth Avenue Church of God with Rev. Rod Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the church.
