Obituary
Joyce McGlenn, 83, passed away on Sept. 8, 2016, surrounded by family in Anchorage, Alaska. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse and friend who lived and worked in Anchorage for more than 30 years. She led a very active life until recently when she developed heart and lung issues that took from us way too early. She was born on the family farm near Glenburn, N.D., in 1933. She left the farm to become a nurse and met her future husband, Doug McGlenn, in Spokane, Wash., where they were both attending bible school. They settled in Montana, where Doug was a successful business owner, and they had three boys. The family enjoyed a happy life and lived in other places over the years including Fairbanks, Alaska, Anaheim, Calif., and Anchorage. Joyce was a nurse at Our Lady of Compassion Care Center until the mid-90s and later worked as Health Programs Manager at the Anchorage Senior Center. She fully retired in 2004. Her passions were her family, gardening, travel and book club. She was especially dedicated to her church, Bethany Christian Community and BSF bible study. Mom was a wonderful, special person who took care of all of us and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Nell McIlroy; her husband, Doug; and son, Scott. She is survived by her son, Tim (Paula) of Kalispell, Mont.; son, Mark (Cindy) of Whitefish, Mont.; siblings, Dean, Jean and Carl in North Dakota; and seven grandchildren, Courtney and Ashley of Anchorage, Simon of Whitefish and Harley, Joe, Charlotte and Gunnar of Kalispell; and one great-grandson, Perry. Services will be held at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Homes, 11621 Old Seward Highway in Anchorage, on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, at 4:30 p.m. published in Alaska Dispatch News 9/10/2016
