Mary Lou Lorraine Round was born 28 April 1930, south of Blockton, Iowa the daughter of Lester and Mary B. (Collar) Round. She was an only child, but never felt alone. Her parents had raised their nephew, Virgil Brooks and were often home to Rex and Art Matheny, since the home was near Blockton High School. Virgil and Rex graduated from high school the same year Lorraine had begun kindergarten. She felt blessed to have had 'the boys' as part of her life. They lived on a farm and she attended Platte River Country School through the first six weeks of seventh grade when thy moved to Bedford. She graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1948.
On 25 September 1949, she and Bill O'Dell were united in marriage and feel so very blessed and privileged to have had so many years together. Bill was called to the U.S. Army during the Korean War and she went to be with him during his time at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky and during that time she worked for the Army, but came home to their own house when he transferred to Germany. Since they already had purchased some land she didn't feel financially able to go to Germany and worked for an attorney during the day and helped her in-laws on the farm in the evening which was her first love of occupation. Bill had always planned to take her to Germany and after the family was raised, they returned eight times, as well as much other travel.
They lived for six years south of Bedford and it was here that they first experienced parenthood when they were blessed with a baby boy whom they named Robert. Shortly after Bob's second birthday, and after they had moved to the home farm following parental retirement, they were further blessed with a baby girl, Martha. These children were such a joy to four grandparents who felt their families were finally fulfilled, and grandparents living in town near school were a truly added convenience.
After semi-retirement in 1989, they moved to Bedford and Bob and Laura moved to the home farm. Lorraine then, what time not filled with grandchildren, had time to help with the Bedford Ambulance Service as an EMT and managing the office work.
Bill and Lorraine were eventually presented with a total of eight grandchildren by Bob and Martha and their spouses, much to grandparent's delight. Michael Jones born four days before Sarah O'Dell, was a rapid beginning.
Survivors are Robert (Laura) O'Dell and Martha (Jeffrey) Jones and their children Michael Jones, Bryan Jones, Scott Jones, Allison Jones, Sarah Herring, Joseph (Abbie) O'Dell, Elissa O'Dell, Hannah O'Dell, and great-grandsons, Noah and Axel O'Dell.
Preceding Lorraine in death are her parents, Lester and Mary Round; her loving husband Bill O'Dell in January of 2016; and a great-grandson, Austin Noah O'Dell.
She left this earth to be welcomed home by a Savior and she left feeling great joy and thanksgiving for all the blessings bestowed for so many years
