WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (INS)-- The war department announced Thursday that 35 persons, including the famous novelist Eric Knight, two officials of the state department and two FBI executives, were killed when a huge four-engined airplane crashed in the jungles of Dutch Guiana on January [sic] 15, the nation's worst plane disaster . . ..

Mrs Nelson said the family received a letter from Lieutenant Campbell on January 11, in which he said he was soon to go on an undisclosed mission for the army.

On Telegram Staff. Before becoming a reporter for The Tribune, Lieutenant Campbell was a member of The Telegram editorial department. He was born in Salt Lake City August 15, 1915.

Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, the former Miss Ruth Nelson. She and the two Campbell children Faith, 5, and Constance, 4, are residing at San Luis Obispo, Cal.

Funeral services were pending Saturday for Charles Joseph Campbell, 85, 150 South West Temple street, who died in a Salt Lake hospital Friday at 12:40 p.m.
Mr Campbell was born in Kingston, N.Y., December 11, 1858. A resident of Salt Lake City City for the past 32 years, he was a retired conductor for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad company. His widow, Mrs Lula C Campbell, survives him.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Olive E Kelly, Salt Lake City, and a sister, Mrs F M Scott, Ft Collins, Colo.
