Born 1911, lived in Cardinal, VA, and passed away on November 20, 2002. She had lived for many years in Falls Church, VA, and for the past six years in Mathews County.

Alberta was born in Trinidad, CO, the daughter of Mollie and Frank Brown, pioneers to the Colorado Territory. Her mother, Mollie Houchins had come to Trinidad as a child by covered wagon. Alberta was educated in Colorado, and became a teacher in Las Animas County, CO.

She taught the children of miners in Segundo and later the children of ranchers in Trinchera.

She married Henry Eugene Abbott, Jr. in 1937. After WWII, Henry remained in the Air Force and they moved many times, making many friends across the United States. She taught in Baltimore City, Jackobsville, MD and Lackland AFB, TX. They retired to Virginia. Lt. Col. Henry Abbott died in 1978.

Alberta is survived by her many friends, her son, David and his wife, Jane of Cardinal, VA; one grandson, John and his wife, Ana Rosa of Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews who live across the United States. The family sends their thanks to the wonderful ladies of the Hospice Program for their skilled assistance and kind hearts.
