Anne Marie (nee Knippler) Abbott, 92, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away March 19, 2016 in Arlington, TX.
Funeral: A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 23, at 11am at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Arlington. Interment will be in Alexandria, Virginia at a later date.
Anne was born Aenni Maria Knippler on August 13, 1923 to the late Franziska and Josef Knippler in Ehlhalten, Germany. She married Raymond W. Abbott, Sr. on June 28, 1947 in Niederreifenberg, Germany. After marrying, the couple sailed to New York, NY. Ray was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA and the couple made their home in nearby Alexandria. Anne worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Alexandria post until she retired in 1972. She maintained an active family life through her involvement with the parishes of St. Mary's and St. Louis.
Anne maintained lifelong relationships she made with other post-war brides. She also regularly corresponded both in writing and by phone with over 40 relatives in Germany and her husband's family in New York. She remarkabley remembered birthdays, wedding anniversaries, death anniversaries and other significant dates for countless relatives and friends until shortly before her death. She was one to count on for prayers when they were needed.
Anne lived in Alexandria for over 50 years until moving to Keezletown, VA to live with her son, Eddie, and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann. She has spent most of the past several years living with her daughter, Marianne, and son-in-law, Bill, in Arlington, TX. Anne was known as "Omi" to her grandchildren, their spouses, their children, and even their friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Al, her husband Ray, her son, Raymond W. Abbott, II, and her daughter, Karen Lydia Abbott.
Survivors: Her children, Marianne Brown and husband Bill of Arlington, TX , Edgar Abbott and wife Mary Ann of Keezletown, VA; ten grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
