Born May 7, 1926, in Pocomoke City, she was a daughter of the late Russell H. Redden and Mattie Marie Goswellin Mason. Her husband, James T. Abell Jr., preceded her in death Nov. 1, 2010.
She and her husband owned and operated Jimmy's Grocery Store in Pocomoke City. After retiring and selling the grocery store, she and her husband became poultry growers for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Abel was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church and a 40 year member of American Legion Post 93 Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, James Thomas Abell III and his wife, Joanne; three grandsons, Matthew Thomas Abell and his wife, Michelle, Dale Andrew Abell and his wife, Karen, and Kyle Christian Abell and his wife, Lauren, all of Pocomoke City; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Samuel, Isabelle and Madelyn; one sister, Wanda Keyser of Anderson, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Wilson Abell; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Abell and Mary Blanche Borman, all from southern Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one stepbrother, Leland Mason, and an infant brother.
A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Paul Elligson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Holloway Funeral Home PA in Pocomoke City, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Goodwill Methodist Cemetery in Pocomoke City.
