A telegram was received by Mr Joel Abercrombie, from St Louis last Saturday, transmitting the sorrowful intelligence that his son Arthur was dead. The deceased, as a member of his father's family, was a resident of Florence all through his childhood and youth, and the tidings of his early death will be received by a large circle of friends and former associated in this village with feelings of profound sorrow. Soon after attaining his majority he was united in marriage to a daughter of Jacob Staab, also a resident of Florence, and a few years subsequent to his marriage he removed to St. Louis, where he engaged in the livery business, continuing in that vocation up to the time of his death. In connection with his livery business he also engaged to a considerable extent in buying and selling horses, having within the last year come East with two or three carloads of the animals, which were disposed of to purchasers in this section. He had succeeded in establishing a flourishing business in St. Louis, but a year or two since his health became feeble, and more recently his older brother, Edwin Abercrombie, sold out his harness making establishment in Florence, and went to St Louis to assist his brother in the management of his business, hoping by thus relieving him of a portion of his care and labor, that his health might be restored. Only a short time since, it was reported that his condition was improving, therefore the tidings of his death proved all the more unexpected to his relatives and friends. His remains are to be brought East for internment.

Same newspaper, October 12, 1880, page 2 - Arthur Abercrombie was received in Florence last Tuesday and buried in Florence cemetery on Wednesday.
