Mr. Alonzo Taylor Abernathy, 63, of Lavonia died Saturday, March 16, 1996, at his residence, following two years of declining health. He was born on Aug. 5, 1932, in Cherokee County, son of the late Andrew and Nancy Howell Abernathy. He had resided at his residence for six years, moving to Lavonia from Norcross. He was employed in the construction business as a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Jean Burks, whom he was married to for 16 years, three sons; ... Two step-daughters; ...; five sisters, ..., two brothers, ..., a grandchild, 2 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Monday, March 18th, at 2 p.m. i the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Singing was arranged by the Owens family. Pallbearers were Carrie McEntyre, Jimmy Gentry, Alvin Brookshire, David Gunter, Michael Clayton, and Charles Abernathy. Interment was in Haven of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun was in charge of arrangements.
