Mrs. Alma Ruth Abernathy, age 80 of Summerville, GA passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Abernathy was born December 27, 1932 in Durant, Oklahoma. She was the first nurse employed at the Summerville Hospital where she was an L.P.N. for 42 years. Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the Summerville Church of God.

Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by husband, William Clinton Abernathy; daughter, Pamela Suzanne Abernathy; father and mother, John Franklin Scoggins and Pearl Mae West Scoggins; and sisters, Mary Scoggins and Ida Barton.

Mrs. Abernathy is survived by son, Frankie Abernathy of Summerville, GA; granddaughters, April and her husband, Daniel Ash of Centre, AL and Melissa and her husband, Aaron Simpson of Trion, GA; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Hale of Summerville, GA; spiritual daughters, Brenda Coffey of Rock Springs, GA and Elaine Webb of Fairfield, Idaho; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 19, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Hutchins, Rev. Terry Taylor, and Rev. Joseph Hardin officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Visitation for Mrs. Alma Ruth Abernathy will be Monday, August 19, 2013 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Hardin, Dewayne Hardin, Ronnie Prince, Michael Prince, Zak Abernathy, Daniel Ash, Aaron Simpson, and Grant Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.
