ABERNATHY Anita Ann Haydel Hill Abernathy was born January 16, 1953 in Metairie, LA and passed away on May 23, 2015 in Acworth, GA after a long battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Irma Abadie Adams Haydel and Richard Phillip Haydel, who was a member of American Legion #175, Lykes Bros and States Marine Isthmiun. Sister to Raymond Adams and Marilyn Martin Adams; Aunt of Glenn Adams and Bruce Adams of Metairie, LA and great aunt and great great aunt. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Bruce Edward Hill III (Anna) of Marietta, GA, Michael Anthony Abernathy (Hollie) of Covington, GA and Marty Bagsit Abernathy of Covington, GA; one daughter and spouse: Maria Elina Abernathy (Phillip Brinkley, Jr). Nine grandchildren: Grayson Richard Hill, Isla Grace Hill, Ansley Brooke Abernathy, Charlotte Ann-Marie Abernathy, Michael Anthony Abernathy, Jr, Leonard Anthony Abernathy, Kathryn Elizabeth Brinkley, Matthew Phillip Brinkley and Jacob Ryan Brinkley. She was the beloved wife of Gerald Michael Abernathy of Acworth, GA. Daughter-in-law to the late Charlotte Francis Beck Abernathy; Sister-in-law to Gail Stinebring, Robert Lee Abernathy and the late William Anthony Abernathy. She attended St. Francis of Assisi, Sacred Heart of Jesus and The University of New Orleans. Anita was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended American Legion Auxiliary Louisiana Girl State and held the office of Lt. Governor at Louisiana Girl State. She loved the outdoors, gardening, golfing, boating and fishing. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation on May 28, 2015 from 7-9pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, located at 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188. Mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Woodstock, GA on May 29, 2015 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Anita's memory to Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, 1000 Howard Ave, Suite 200, New Orleans, LA 70113.
