Adolphus Albert Abernethy, son of Logan Benjamin Abernethy and Catherine Jarrett, married Drillie Elizabeth Ann Doggett Feb. 20, 1879 in Rutherford County. Drillie was the daughter of Micajah H. Doggett and Narcissa Susanna Hardin. They had 8 children: Mae Bell, Robert Zebulon, Mamie, George Logan, Samuel Dewitt, Vardy McBee, Katie Sue, and Albert Doggett. After Drillie died, Adolphus married Golden Doggett Withrow. Golden was the daughter of William Doggett and Bessie Butler. Her first husband was Weldon Miller Withrow. Golden died Jan 16, 1958 in Forest City, N.C. and is buried at Tanners Grove Methodist Cemetery in Forest City, Rutherford County, N.C. Adolphus was Plant Engineer at Rocky Mount Mills for over 24 years. He also ran the Rocky Mount Mills Light Department, which provided electric service to a wide area of Nash County.
