A native of Franklin County, Mr. Acklen was born April 6, 1918 to Matthew and Ida Hastings Acklen. He was the owner and operator of Morris Ferry Boat Dock on Woods Reservoir and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Winchester.
Services were held the afternoon of February 3 at Moore-Cortner Chapel in Winchester with Rev. Eugene Barrett officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Acklen is survived by his wife, Mrs. Wilma Irene Brazelton Acklen; one son, Steven Edward Acklen of Winchester; one daughter, Mrs. Janice Irene Acklen Greer of New York, New York; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Grammer, Mrs. Corie Hudson, and Mrs. Leora Morris, all of Winchester; two brothers, Charles Acklen of Winchester and Woodard Acklen of Decherd; and three grandchildren.
