She was born February 7, 1929 to Gordon Veon Hickman and Mildred Smith Hickman.

She graduated from Bay High School, in Bay, Arkansas, and went on to complete a business program at Draughon's Business College in Memphis.

She married Robert Edward "Bob" Adams of Memphis. When his educational pursuits led them to the University of Mississippi, Betty served as president of the Married Student Wives organization at Ole Miss. Bob's career then led them to East Tennessee where he worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. There they enjoyed many years of close friendships with their Oak Ridge "family" before returning to Mississippi in their retirement years; first to Oxford, then to Olive Branch.

They were married for 58 years before Bob predeceased Betty in 2008.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her daughter, Emily Adams Keplinger, and her grandson Ellis Adams Keplinger of Memphis; a sister, Thresia Hickman Coy, of Jonesboro, AR, and a brother, John Loyd Hickman, of Imboden, AR. She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Joyce Hickman Watts and Mary Hickman Jeter, and her brother Bobby Allen Hickman.

Mrs. Adams was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a compassionate friend, and an avid bridge player, having earned the title of Silver Life Master.
