Bonnie Lackey Adams, 91, of Columbia, South Carolina, joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 3, 2017. The youngest of twelve, Bonnie was born on August 10, 1926 in Newton, North Carolina, to the late Lillie and Forney Lackey. She was a 1944 graduate of Newton-Conover High School, and in 1946 married Thomas “Tom” Adams.

Bonnie and Tom built a life together in Columbia, South Carolina, including raising six children. For years they lived across the street from Joseph Keels Elementary School where they were actively involved in the community. She is remembered for her deep faith and her love of sewing, quilting, and reading. Bonnie was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church. An active caregiver to many children throughout her life, Bonnie affectionately became known as “Nanny.”

Preceding Bonnie in passing are her husband of nearly fifty years and her daughter, Jane DeWitt. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Terri), Thomas Jr. (Jenny), Susan Sheehan (Tim), Alice Shawen (Mike), and Gigi Jones (Earnie); as well as ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

An intimate family service for Bonnie will be held on Thursday, September 7th at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
