This infant George M. Adams is buried near his mother Anna M. Adams (1825-1890)(#11425999) and his sisters Lizzie and Anna and brothers Charles S. and Dr. D. W. Adams in the Charles Scott plot, old burial ground west of the central avenue. George M. Adams' father was Confederate General Daniel W. Adams (1821-1872) (#9850). His grandfather and namesake was George Adams (1784-1844) (#12303451), also buried in this cemetery. Interestingly, the inscription on the grandfather's stone appears to have been carved by the same artisan who carved the infant George M. Adams' stone.

Linda Thompson, a Greenwood Cemetery Association board member, advises that the old cemetery surveys and an actual inspection of the grave marker show the birth year to be 1848 and the death year, 1849. Greenwood Cemetery was founded by legislative act in January 1, 1823. The earliest extant markers date to the 1830s, although an 1860 survey showed the oldest marker was dated 1827.
