Died on Friday Evening last (May 24, 1850), Captain Allen B. Addison. He died at 9 o'clock p.m. of an affection of the heart. He was one of the early settlers of this Village, and saw it grow, under his eye, from a rude Hamlet to its present size and beauty. A native of Edgefield District, and an officer of the War of 1812, his life and character form a part of the history of the District.
Captain Addison was born within a few miles of this town on April 1, 1788, and was raised in Edgefikeld District. His father, Joseph Addison, died whilst is son was an infant, and his early training was left to is pious mother, whose maiden name was Brown.
During the War of 1812, through the late Mr. Calhoun, he obtained the commission of 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army; was stationed for a year or more with his Regiment near Charleston, and for the greater part of that time, acted as Adjutant of the Regiment. He joined the Baptist Church in Edgefield in 1831. He left his wife and four children, three of whom re living.
