Born in Newark, Joseph lived in Ocean Township for 20 years. He was a retired toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and a union representative for the Garden State Parkway Authority. He was a communicant of St. Michaels R.C. Church.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents - his mother, Doris, and father, Hugh Addonizio, the former Newark mayor and Democratic congressman; and by a brother, Thomas C. Addonizio. Surviving are his former wife, Colleen McCabe of Tinton Falls; a step-daughter, Courtney Phillips of Tinton Falls; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, James J. and Cheryl Addonizio of Holmdel, Frank H. Addonizio of Washington, D.C., Rachel Addonizio of Florham Park; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Carol and Jeffrey Schwartz of Ocean and Lois and Daniel Tafro of Ocean; his nephews, nieces and their spouses, Marc and Robyn Schwartz, Daniel and Stephanie Tafro, Rachel and Daniel Hoff, John Addonizio, Anthony Addonizio, Thomas Addonizio and Gabrielle Addonizio, and two great-nephews, Joseph Tafro and Nathan Schwartz.
