Kathryn Retrosi Obituary Published in the Rome Daily Sentinel
Born January 14, 1923 in Rome, NY to Adolfo and Maria Lamandia Adolfi, Kathryn passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 100.
Kathryn attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy with the class of 1941. On April 11, 1942 she married Frank Retrosi in St. John the Baptist church where they continued to be lifelong members. Frank predeceased her in November 2000.
Together, Frank and Kathryn ran the Elm St. grocery store for ten years until Frank started in the insurance business. Kathryn attended Mohawk Valley Community College and received an Associate's degree in insurance and became a licensed insurance agent. For many years she was the office manager in her husband's insurance office, the Frank Retrosi Agency. Kathryn was a member of the Insurance Women of Oneida County, and served as an officer in that organization for many years.
Kathryn was very active throughout her lifetime in many organizations in the Rome area such as the Sigma Delta Xi Sorority, Jervis Library, Family Y, Rome Art and Community Center, the Dorfman Senior Center, the Polish Home, Teugega Country Club, the Foster Grandparents Program.
She was an avid bowler, golfer, reader, music lover, Nordic skier, crossword puzzler, and an amazing Italian cook. In addition to Italian, she had a thirst for learning new languages like French, Spanish and Greek.
Kathryn loved to travel and toured throughout Italy and other European ports of call. For many years she and Frank wintered in Orlando, Florida where they made many dear friends.
Kathryn loved being a member of her large and very active family. She was the fifth child, and the last surviving sibling of the ten Adolfi children: Nazi, Frank, Jaconda, Joseph, Henry, Albert, Richard, Anthony, and Marie. Her beloved nieces and nephews are numerous, and although they live all over the country she thought of them fondly and kept in close contact with them and their families.
Kathryn is survived by her sons and grandchildren.
