Funeral Services Held For Bernice Ahern

Remains of Former Berthold Girl Who Perished in Waverly Fire Are Interred at Kenmare
Funeral services were held at St. Ann’s Catholic church yesterday morning at 10 o’clock for Miss Bernice Ahern, who lost her life in the Waverly Hotel fire in Minot on January 19, and whose body was recovered from the ruins last Saturday.

The services were conducted by Fr. H. J. Mandry, and following the services the remains were taken to Kenmare for burial in the family plot in the Catholic cemetery there. The pallbearers were Joe Linster, Frank Bruels, Clarence Fisher, S. J. Bastick, Edward Gormican and John Burke.

Bernice Delores Ahern was born at Northfield, Minnesota in 1896, and came to North Dakota with her parents in 1902, when they homesteaded south of Berthold. She attended the grade school in Mandan Township and later attended St. Agnes Academy at Kenmare. In 1919 she entered nurses training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, and after graduating three years later, became a nurse at the city detention hospital in Minot. She held this position for ten years, after which she engaged in private nursing.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Johanna Ahern, two brothers, William and Terrance, all of Berthold, and four sisters, Mrs. George Stoddney, Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Dallas Gaines, of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Robert Miller of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Ollie Fitzimmons of Santa Cruz. Calif.
