There is a CENOTAPH for Calvin in the Alexander Family Cemetery in Cherokee County, Georgia (photo on the right). The inscription on the CENOTAPH reads:

"His mother, Jane Hufstetler Alexander, wife of Calvin Morgan Alexander, died while giving birth to baby Calvin and was buried near Reinhardt College. Calvin E. Alexander was raised by his grandparents George W. & Evaline Frye here until 1916. George W. died 07 OCT 1914 and Evaline died 23 NOV 1915. Calvin then went to live with his father in Gordon County until 04 SEP 1917, when he enlisted in the US Army. He was mortally wounded on 10 NOV 1918 and died 11 NOV 1918, on Armistice Day in France, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, Section 18, Grave 1350. He is recognized in his grandparents will as the 12th child."

This cenotaph was created and put in the Alexander family cemetery long after the death of Calvin Alexander. The date of his death is not listed correctly on the cenotaph; according to the newspaper article (to the right), and the hand writen notes of Nannie Alexander Taylor (Calvins half-sister) on the photo notice the family received from the Red Cross in 1918.

His mother, Jane Hufstetler Alexander, did not die while giving birth, but did die 30 days after the birth of Calvin. She is buried in the Waleska Baptist Church cemetery, on Bartow Street, Waleska, Cherokee County, Georgia.

The picture of the original cross placed on his grave was sent to the family by the Red Cross back in 1918. That notice is now in my possession, as well as the newspaper article on the right.
