Dale F. Alexander 86 of Gallatin passed away Tuesday August 18, 2015 at Mosaic Life Center in St. Joseph. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 22nd at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin where friends may call after 11am Friday. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Rotary Club in care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
Dale was born May 14, 1929 the son of Carl and Hortense (Feurt) Alexander in Coffey, MO. He graduated from Jameson High School in 1947 and started working at the Tate Motor Company as a mechanic. Dale was united in marriage to Frances Ann Richards December 10, 1950 in Jameson MO. He entered into the US Army June 15, 1951 proudly serving his country for 2 years. After leaving the military Dale and Frances Ann moved to the family farm south of Jameson where they raised their daughters and farmed. In 1968 they bought the Alexander’s Market from his parents and continued the family tradition of serving the Jameson community. All of the family worked at the grocery story pitching in and doing whatever was needed. In 1983 Dale purchased Danny’s Hardware on the corner of the square, which became Dale’s Hardware while they continued to live on the farm. In 1985 the couple moved to Gallatin to make their home. Dale always had an interest in doing electrical work and having the hardware store gave him the opportunity to become more involved and eventually did electrical work full time. He took great pride in caring for his customers and always had their best interest at heart. Dale retired in the late 90’s.
Dale was a member of the Gallatin United Methodist Church, Gallatin Rotary Club, a 50 year member of the Gallatin Lions Club, past member of the Masonic Lodge, served as a firefighter and chief of the Jameson Fire Department, and was active in helping with the Jameson Picnic. He was community minded and his lifelong journey was dedicated to serving the public. He enjoyed working puzzles and was an avid Royal’s fan. His daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he delighted in spending time with them. Dale was an entrepreneur, handy man and a farmer his entire life, whose infectious smile and attitude toward life was inspiring to all who knew and loved him.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances Ann in 1998 and his daughter, Lisa Gann in 2008.
Dale is survived by his daughters, Teresa Kay Anderson and husband Mike of Savannah, MO, Kathy Lynn Alexander of Houston, TX, Patricia Adkison and husband Bob of Jameson, MO, Susan Whitney and husband Kenney of Branson, MO, sister Elizabeth Reno of Cameron, MO. 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
