Barbara Ann Bowen Alexander, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother quietly passed away Saturday February 15, 2014 at the age of 82 years.

Barbara was born on May 31, 1931 in Providence, Rhode Island. She traveled the world as a loving and supportive military wife, retired in Virginia and resided in Baton Rouge for the last five years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Colonel (USAF Ret.) Gerald F. Alexander, her parents, Francis A. & Kathrine O'Connor Bowen and sister, Caroline Bowen Brassil.

Barbara is survived by her 10 children: Gail A. Alexander and husband Malcolm of Baton Rouge, LA; Col. (USAF Ret) Gerald F. Alexander, Jr. and wife Barbara of Fairfax, VA; Kathryn A. Chelette and husband Ted (USA CW4 Ret) of Fayetteville, NC; Mark B. Alexander and wife Lea of Honolulu, HI; Daniel J. Alexander of North Richland Hills, TX; Lisa A. Dodd and husband Christopher (CW5 Ret) of Melbourne, FL; John K. Alexander and wife Gwen of Duluth, GA; Susan A. Young of Louisville, KY; Julia A. Roberts and husband Ronald of Aberdeen, Scotland; Michael W. Alexander of Richmond, VA; her 24 grandchildren; her 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Rabenhorst Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Clifton Hill presiding. Internment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
