Mrs. Howard F. Alexander succumbed at her home in McDowell on Sunday afternoon, March 22nd at 5.25 p.m. following a lingering illness. Her husband, Mr Howard F. Alexander having preceded her in death at 8:25 a.m. of the same day. She was the former Miss Addie Weusthoff, of Baltimore, Maryland. She married Mr. Howard F. Alexander of McDowell in September of 1936 and came to make her home here, more than sixteen years ago. She was a woman of charming personality and sterling qualities. She was interested in both church and civic affairs, and was noted for her generosity to all charitable causes. She was a member of an Episcopal church in Baltimore and was affiliated with the Presbyterian church of McDowell. She lived a life of sacrifice and service and her creative and artistic ability were unsurpassed, her home was most outstanding in the community and was noted at all times for it's gracious hospitality. To knew her was to love her. She is survived by four nieces Misses Norma, Justine and Mary Louise Humes of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. William Rockwell of Florida, and a nephew Mr. Irvine Humes of Texas. A double funeral service was conducted at the McDowell Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon at Two O'clock by Rev. G.H Rector of the Presbyterian Church assisted by the Rev. R.L. Nuckols of the Methodist Church and the Rev. W.H. Zigler of the Brethren Church. Interment was in the Cemetery on the "Hansel Hill" in the same grave.
