Born in Prussia Germany. Came to California from NY, making his home first in Sacramento. He spent the greater part of his life in CA.
Funeral was from the family home located at 415 Wadsworth Avenue (I am assuming this is in Oakland). Rev Dr. M. Friedlander, Rabbi of the First Hebrew Congregation conducted the service.
Last May Mr. and Mrs. Alexander celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
He had resided in Oakland the past 25 years.
He engaged in the drygoods business first in Sacramento, then he expanded to include stores in Woodland, Folsom and San Francisco. He was called "The Grand Old Man" and up to the time of his death was known by that title.
He was a charter member of the Pacific Hebrew Orphanage Asylum of San Francisco and held a membership card in the Independent Order of B'Nai B'Rith Lodge, from which he withdrew.
Survived by his wife Bertha, children Abraham Alexander of Aberdeen, WA, Mrs. Lillian Kahn of San Francisco and Mrs. Harry Hoffman of Oakland; grandchildren Miriam and Eleanor Hoffman, Helen and Bernice Alexander and Alma and Sarah Kahn.
