Born in Pawcatuck, CT, she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Minnie (White) Whipple.
Barbara received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Connecticut and worked as a clinical dietitian and instructor at the Nursing School for Hartford Hospital before retiring. After her retirement, she worked for Village Reflections in Wickford for twenty years.
She enjoyed quilting, knitting and traveling; and was a member of the ‘Ye Kingstown' Quilters and a local Garden Club. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association.
She leaves her daughter, Lorayne A. Black and her husband David H. Black, Jr. of Groton, MA; a sister Dorothy Achor of Westminster, MD; and two grandchildren, Robert C. Black of Washington, DC and Sarah M. Black of Boston, MA. She was the mother of the late Eric M. Algren.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11am in Elm Grove Cemetery, 197 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic, CT. Visiting hours will be Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2-5pm, with a remembrance of her life at 4pm, in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Healing Garden, 145 Bolton Rd., Harvard, MA 01451, will be appreciated.
