Mrs. Maria Allen, wife of Col. Ethan Allen of New York, died suddenly in New York last night at the Metropolitan Opera House. She was accompanied to the opera by her adopted daughter, Miss Reid. Just as the curtain went up Mrs. Allen gasped and fell forward. Her death followed a few minutes later in the reception room. Mrs. Allen was a Washingtonian and sister of Mr. Dorsey Clagett and of the late William Clagett of this city.
