According to his death record, which can be seen at Familysearch.org, his parents were James W. & Nellie Mae (or May) (Crow) Allen, who were both born in Logan, Hocking Co., OH. When little Carlton died, they were living at 113 Buckeye St. in Dayton. Carlton's father was the informant on his death certificate. James & Nellie were married 11 Aug. 1892 in Hocking Co., OH. They were in the 1900 Falls Twp., Hocking Co., OH census and the 1910 Newark, Licking Co., OH census.

I was told by a Findagrave.com volunteer that Carlton's parents aren't in the same cemetery as Carlton. Carlton's sister Helen (Allen) Dill (111278112) appears to be in the Willow View Cemetery in Dayton, OH. Could their parents be in that cemetery? Note that Helen's headstone refers to her father as Rev. J. W. Allen.

Carlton also had a sister Hazel May (Allen) Doogan Waldo b. 8 July 1892 Hocking Co., OH. Hazel secondly married Bert G. Waldo b. about 1891 Sweden on 21 Dec. 1920 Licking Co., OH. Hazel died 24 January 1946 in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.

Carlton's grandparents Civil War veteran David Allen (48267901) & Sarah Allen (48268022) are in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark, Licking Co., OH. I haven't located for sure where David's parents James & Sarah (Funk) Allen were buried, but I suspect that Sarah Allen is in the Old Logan Cemetery in Hocking Co. Perhaps an obituary would confirm that? The microfilm machine at the Logan Public Library quit working so I was told that people wanting to see the old Logan obituaries would have to go to the library in Nelsonville, Athens Co., OH.

Was Carlton's father James W. Allen 67 OH in the 1940 Ward 11, Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH census with a second wife named Ethel Allen 45 Michigan? The James W. Allen in this census record was listed as manager of a rooming house.
