VERONA Blanche S. Allen, 84, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at the Daniel Health Care Center. She attended the Mary C. Wade School. She was an active member of Second Baptist M.B. Church of Verona, where she attended Sunday School, morning worship and Bible class. She was the oldest original member of the church. She did domestic work and sewed for the public for many years. She was a retired employee of the North Mississippi Medical Center, where she was the cook supervisor. After retiring, she worked for Connie’s Fried Chicken until 1991.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Second Baptist M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Verona Cemetery. Grayson-Porter’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeannette Barrow and her husband, Johnny, of Chicago, Margaret A. Baker of Verona, and Maxine Herring and her husband, Alfonzo, of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; one brother, James Shell of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Allen, and a daughter, Mary E. Yates.

Pallbearers will be members of the Second Baptist M.B. Church Deacon Board.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour before services.
