Aleta Holland Allen, 95, a native of Greensboro, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Kilmamock,Va., where she had lived for several years in a nursing home near her niece.

Mrs. Allen, widow of Morris Allen, was born in Greensboro and lived here most of her life at the family residence at 4243 United Street.

She attended Womans College of the University of North Carolina and was an executive secretary and underwriter for Southern Life Insurance Company, before her retirement. She was also a prolific artist, creating hundreds of paintings over her lifetime, many of them in private collections in Greensboro and elsewhere.

Mrs. Allen went to Kilmamock in 1998 to be near her niece, Jan Thomas Mumma, also a native of Greensboro and her nephew, Albert G. Mumma, Jr.

Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Jerry N. Thomas of Greensboro, Ashley Holland Dozier of Winston-Salem, Lillian Holland Brady of Reidsville, Curtis A. Holland, Jr. of Maitland, Fla. and David R. Holland of Dover, Del.

Mrs. Allen was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, with burial to follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive guests after the service in the church hall.
Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers to Christ Wesleyan Church, 2400 S. Holden Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27407 or to the Alzheimers Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill. 60611-9408.

Aleta Holland Allen, 95, a native of Greensboro, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Kilmamock,Va., where she had lived for several years in a nursing home near her niece.
