He died from wounds received in action.∼Amos served as a Captain of Company H, 11th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
It is believed that he possibly died in a hospital in Washington, D.C. from wounds he received in the Battle of Cold Harbor.
There is some evidence that he was first interred in the Arlington National Cemetery and then later re-interred in Connecticut.
